Conversation One
Some wounds don’t bleed. They become the way we love.
have you ever caught yourself reacting in a way you could not explain?
Not because the situation was particularly frightening.
But because something inside you responded long before your mind had the chance to.
A delayed reply to a message suddenly feels like a rejection.
A simple disagreement leaves your heart racing for hours.
A compliment makes you uncomfortable.
Someone offers genuine kindness & instead of feeling relieved you wonder what they want in return.
You say I am sorry when you’ve done nothing wrong.
You laugh while talking about something that once broke your heart.
You keep giving people chances long after they’ve stopped being gentle with yours.
And then, perhaps in the quiet of the night, you ask yourself the same question you’ve asked a hundred times before.
“Why Am I Like This?”
It is one of the loneliest question a human being can ask.
Not because it seeks an answer.
But because, hidden beneath it, is another question we are often too afraid to say aloud.
“Is there something wrong with me?”
For a long time, psychology tried to answer that question by looking for symptoms.
Anxiety
Depression
Hypervigilance
Perfectionism
Avoidance
People – Pleasing
Each of these names has helped us understand human suffering and many have guided effective treatments that have changed countless lives.
But somewhere along the way, another quietly emerged.
Not,
“What is wrong with this person?”
But,
“What has this person lived through?”
That question changed everything
Because suddenly, behavior was no longer something to judge
It became something to understand.
What if your reactions are not random?
What if they’re not evidence that you are weak, dramatic, broken or “too sensitive?”
What if they are ECHOES?
Not the original sound
Not the event itself.
But the part that remained after the moment had passed.
Think about an echo for a moment…
You shout into a valley. The sound returns
Not because someone is shouting back at you
But because the landscape remembers.
Human beings are not valleys. Yet in some ways, our hearts are remarkably similar.
Experiences pass
Years move on
People Leave
Childhood ends
Relationships change
Life keep asking us to move forward. But sometimes the emotional echo remains.
Not to haunt us.
Not to punish us.
Simply because a part of us has not yet understood that the moment is over.
We often believe the hardest experiences of pour lives are the loud ones.
The Accident.
The Betrayal.
The Loss.
The Day everything changed.
Sometimes they are.
But i have sat with enough human stories to know that some of the deepest wounds are almost invisible.
They are made of ordinary moments that quietly repeat themselves until they become extraordinary in their imapct.
“Being interrupted everytime you speak.“
“Learning that love arrived only when you performed well.“
“Growing up believing that anger was dangerous, so you swollowed your own.”
“Walking into school every morning wondering who would laugh at you before lunch time.“
“Being the child who became “the strong one” long before anyone asked whether you are tired.“
None of these moments, on their own, may seem large enough to explain the weight of someone carries as an adult.
But Healing has taught us something profound.
It is not always one moment that shapes us
sometimes it is the meaning we quietly collect from hundreds of moments.
A child is rarely born believing,
“I am Difficult”.
They arrive curious,
Open,
willing to love without hesitations.
Beliefs like,
I am too much
I must earn love
People always leave
I shouldn’t need anyone
are not part of our nature.
They are conclusions.
And every conclusion has a history.
This is perhaps the kindest thing psychology has ever taught us
Human beings make meaning before they make memories.
long before we’ve the language to explain our experiences our minds are already asking,
“What does this moment teach me about the world?”
“What does it teach me about other people?”
“What does it teach me about myself?”
We rarely remember asking these questions.
But we spend years living their answers,
And this is why so many adults find themselves fighting reactions they don’t understand.
Not because they’re irrational
But because, they are responding to stories that were written long before they ever knew they were holding a pen.
A Quiet Conversation
Dear Heart,
I know you’ve been carrying echoes for a long time.
Some of them belong to moments you’ve almost forgotten.
Some belong to words you still remember excatly.
You have spent years trying to protect me in the only ways you knew.
Thankyou.
Before we try to change you…
I’d like to understand you.
Perhaps that is where we begin.
To be continued…
